Chantilly is an Easy Day Trip From Paris
Chantilly is an easy day trip (26-45 minutes) from Paris by train and has something to offer for everyone in the family. From the tourist information center you can access a path through the forest that leads you to the Château de Chantilly. The park around the Château is open daily til 8pm (20h) in the summer. Behind the Château you will discover beautiful gardens and access to the boat ride on the ornamental lake. The boat ride is available only during the summer.
The Château
You will enter the Château grounds via the Grille of Honor (gate and ticket office) so when you exit the Château, turn right to visit the Living Horse Museum (Musée Vivant du Cheval).
Chantilly’s High Street is Avenue du Maréchal Joffre. This is the street to be on if you want to shop or find a café or restaurant. The Office of Tourism is located at number 60.
Garden of Princes
The most obvious reason to be here is to visit the Château. However, there are other attractions that you may want to consider. The first is the Garden of the Princes (Potager des Princes et Musée de la Basse-Cour). This beautiful garden has animations designed for children and is free entry: 17 rue de la Faisanderie.
Jaques Manse Pavillion
Also of interest is the Jaques Manse Pavillion which dates from the 17th century. It was designed to house a pump which pumps water from the spring below to supply the fountains, basins and other water features of the Château’s gardens.
Hippodrome
The horse track, called the Hippodrome, hosts an international horse race in June, the Gros Chene Trophy.
Lace and Heritage Museum
The Lace and Heritage Museum (Musée de Patrimoine et de la Dentelle) is locate at Pavillon Egler, 34 rue d’Aumale, 1, place Omer Vallon. Open only on Wednesdays and Saturdays, you can watch demonstrations of handmade lace being created using spindles if you arrive on Wednesday. Beginning in the 17th century, this part of the region specialized in silk lace-making.
