Alixe Fu’s Exhibition in Paris
I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered Alixe Fu’s exhibition in Paris as I had actually been headed for the neighborhood outdoor market! I love Paris! You never know what you are going to discover from one day to the next. Having just left Damman Frères Tea shop in Place Vosges, I remembered that I had seen a local market in this area on a previous visit. So I went in search of it.
Stumbling Upon an Art Exhibition
Imagine my surprise when I found Alixe Fu’s exhibition in Paris tucked away on Place du Marché Sainte Catherine ( 4th arrondissement) instead of the local market. Large white statues, existentional in design, graced the plaza where I remembered the market. (By the way, the market was not cancelled…… I just had the wrong square in mind!)
Alixe Fu’s exhibition in Paris also included his portraits métissés (hybrid/mixed portraits) at Galerie Marie Vitoux.
Who is Fu?
Who is Alixe Fu? Alixe Fu is a French Chinese artist who works in both France and China. He currently resides in Auvers sur Oise, France.
Fu has exhibited in Paris, Beijing, New York, Japan and Taiwan. He was awarded the French Ministry of Culture award in 1991.
These existential sculptures are fascinating and are part of Fu’s “sign me” exhibition. Encouraging the viewer to participate in the work of art by signing it adds a whole different dimension to the art. As this was the first day of the exhibit, not many people had signed the statues. I’ll admit, the idea of scrawling something of my own on someone else’s art intimidated me. So like many people wandering the plaza, I looked but did not write.
According to his website, this “sign me” exhibition has also been on display in Beijing and Taipei .
