Château du Moulin

Château du Moulin, which dates from the end of the 15th century, is nestled in the Sologne forest south of Blois and just west of Romorantin-Lanthenay at the end of a private road. The sign at the gate beckons you to follow the road on foot where you arrive at a private residence.  Had it not been for this small sign we would have never seen the château.

chateau-moulin-1This was one of those delightful discoveries you sometimes stumble upon in life. My plea to stop and take a look came from my love of windmills, moulin being the French word for mill. We would soon discover that there was no mill but that the name of the original owner was Philippe du Moulin.

What a delightful sight! The picturesque Château is surrounded by a moat and while we waited for the tour, we had no trouble fantasizing what it would be like to live in such a place. The chateau is still inhabited and on the day we were there, we received a private tour by the owner’s granddaughter. Inside, the rooms are filled with tapestries and original furnishings. Although the tour is in French but do not let that deter you. Your eyes can still feast on the tapestries and furnishings.

This is not a château such as Chenonceau or Chambord. It is small and intimate, providing you with a totally different perspective.

There is also a kitchen garden to visit (potager) where you will find 40 different varieties of strawberries. However, I have no interior photos to share. Photos were not allowed since this is still a private residence.
