Best Baguettes in Paris 2014

This is the 20th year that Paris has ranked its bakers (boulangers)  (Grand Prix de la Baguette de Tradition Française de la Ville de Paris).  I wanted to map the best baguettes in Paris 2014 so that we can try some of these wonderful breads . Wouldn’t I love to have the job of evaluating all those baguettes! Of course, if I did, I would definitely have to climb to the gargoyle level of Notre Dame every single day to burn off all that delicious goodness. This fall we will have almost a full week in Paris and I plan to try a different one of these winning boulangeries every day.

Winner of the Best Baguettes Paris 2014

The winner this year is Aux Délices du Palais at 60, boulevard Brune. Being located in the 14th arrondissement means that this boulangerie is out of the traditional tourist path of most visitors. In fact, when you place it on google maps, you discover it is actually very near the periphrique (ring road) which circles Paris. Like I said, I am mapping all of the locations of the winners so that we can visit the boulangerie that is closest to each day’s explorations.

The results of this year’s competition are interesting on a couple of fronts. First, it is the second year in a row that a boulangerie in the 14^th arrondissement has won this honor. In 2013 the winner was Au Paradis du Gourmand 156 Rue Raymond Losserand which is also in the 14^th arrondissement. It looks like the 14^th arrondissement is trying to set a tradition/record.

The second reason the Best Baguettes in Paris 2014 competition is interesting is that there were not just 10 top winners. There were actually 15 top places because of the ties that occurred at second, fourth, fifth and eighth places.

First Place Winners for the 2007-2012

The six years leading up to the 2013 competition for the best traditional baguette in Paris saw Montmartre (18th arrondissement) holding the winning boulangerie every year except 2009.
